      I took our AFHS FamilyRoots guest speakers out to Banff today to show them the sights.  The photos are posted here:


      It is not to late to attend the AFHS Family Roots Event.  We will be taking registrations for the day event at the door. (I believe the dinner is almost sold out.)

      Doors open at 8 am and presentations start at 8:30 am.

      LECTURES: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. ($30.00 per person)
      Ball Room, Deerfoot Inn & Casino, 1000 - 35th Street, S.E., Calgary, Alberta (just off Highway 2)

      8 a.m. Doors Open

      8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. The Organized Genealogist: Dick Eastman A look at various methods of
      organizing on-line searches, recording the results of those searches and preserving the information
      for the long term. Dick will also discuss methods of preserving printed books and magazines and
      making sure that information in those publications can be easily searched and retrieved.

      9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Records Interrogation 101 – Squeezing Records Until They Talk: Lyn
      Meehan. We will examine a death record and a few photographs. Interaction between Lynn and the
      listeners intensifies as we search corner to corner for clues and list outside sources to consult in order
      to squeeze the records to tell a story.

      11 a.m. – 12 noon Social Networking – New Horizons for Genealogists: Thomas MacEntee. An
      introduction to social media including blogs, Facebook and Twitter.

      12 noon – 1:30 p.m. Lunch. There are a couple of small restaurants in the Deerfoot Inn and there are
      restaurants a five minute drive away on each side of 130th Avenue, S.E.

      1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Conservation: Keeping Up with Technology: Dick Eastman. How to make
      sure that your genealogy data is still readable by future generations.

      2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Become a Genealogy Blogger: Thomas MacEntee. How to create your own
      genealogy blog.

      DINNER 6 p.m. at Big Rock Grill, 5555-76 Ave. S.E., Calgary ($25.00 per person)
      Dinner Speaker: Putting the Genes in Genealogy: Dick Eastman. A serious look at the possibility
      that today’s genealogists may become the lifesavers of family and loved ones in the near future.
