The National Genealogical Society is holding their annual conference in
the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City from the 28th of April to May 1st 2010.
For complete details go to www.ngsgenealogy.org and click on Conference
and Events. Then select Annual Conference then choose Attendee
Registration. In the main body of the resulting screen is a link titled
Registration Brochure. This is a pdf file 967 KB. This will provide
full details about the conference , themed "Follow Your Ancestral
Trail". including a list of conference hotels with prices.
There will be over 100 speakers, many whose names are very well known,
in 9 tracks with 6 lectures in each track per day . Lectures start at
8:00 AM with the last lecture at 4:00 PM. There are several luncheons
available every day each of which has a name speaker. There are also
several evening events available. The luncheons and evening events are
extras requiring an additional fee or registration for a specific talk.
Full conference registration is $175US before March 8th and $210
thereafter. Single day registration is $95 and $100 after March 8th.
You can book. Conference hotel rooms range from $120 to $130. You
might want to check other hotels for better rates. Just remember, a
Salt Lake city block is loooonnnnng.

The NGS merged with Gentech in 2002. At that time both organizations
held yearly conferences. This is the first year that the NGS has made a
serious effort to include the content the Gentech conferences provided.
This year the number of Gentech lectures have been greatly increased
from former years to reflect the increasing use of technology by
researchers and the exhibit hall has been divided into a Gentech area
and the normal boring exhibits. There will be lectures presented by
exhibitors periodically throughout the day. There will also be a
network of 60 computers for use by the general public to check e-mail,
      check out web sites etc.

If you have ever had the desire to attend one of these national
conferences now is your chance. Last conferences held in the west by
the NGS were in 2000 at Portland, 2002 at Milwaukee, and 2004 at
Sacramento. Salt Lake is about as close as any national conference
by the NGS or the FHS gets to Calgary. Salt Lake is only a two day
drive (assuming you don't want to run through that new body scanner in
the Calgary airport), or one day if your a masochist (14 hours counting
      food and fuel stops).

If you go take care on Saturday May 1st. There will be an old cripple
cruising the halls in a scooter (I hope). See you there.
