Vancouver research opportunities available again.
Please be advised that the City of Vancouver Archives has now re-opened following settlement of a labour dispute between the City and CUPE Local 15, the City's inside workers. As I write this, settlements have yet to be reached with the locals representing the City's outside and library workers. Archives staff have been on strike since July 23rd, and it my very great pleasure to welcome them back to work.
Please feel free to circulate this information regarding our return to service to any of your colleagues or researchers who may be planning to visit us, either in person or virtually.
We also are delighted to report that Leslie Mobbs joined our team August 7th as our new City Archivist and Director of the Records and Archives Division. Les comes to us with experience from BC Archives, Library and Archives Canada and, most recently, Public Works Canada. Over the past couple of months, Les and I have been working together on a number of the division's strategic initiatives, and we both are looking forward to moving ahead with many of these now that staff have returned.
