ATLANTIC CANADA SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP UDPATE

Atlantic Canada SIG March 9, 2005 Meeting Announcement

THIS MEETING WAS ORIGINALLY SLATED FOR JANUARY BUT CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

The Atlantic Canada Special Interest Group will be meeting to take a comprehensive look at Prince Edward Island .  Sharing of maps, land grants, primary sources, internet resources, books and periodicals within the AFHS Library or within the Atlantic SIG membership, an overview of each of the different waves of settlement such as the Selkirk settlers, the Loyalists, the Glenaladale settlers, the Irish immigrants, ship records, timelines that reference the ‘Year of the Mice’, and how this impacted our ancestors, a bit about Fort Francklin and St. John’s Island as well as how Charlottetown got its name. There will be plenty of hand-outs to share.  Please bring a friend and information to share on your PEI ancestors.  We welcome all those who have any Atlantic Canada roots ( New Brunswick , Newfoundland & Labrador , Nova Scotia and, of course, Prince Edward Island ) to plan on attending this evenings’ meeting to learn more about digging up your roots in the Maritimes!
