Isn't Archives  Ontario online?  Also I found relatives of relatives in a book in the LDS library that had lists of soldiers.   Can only remember that I was looking for 1800's Wentworth Cty. and surrounding counties, but keep the notes which were verified later at the Ontario Archives.

My wife Carol had an ancestor who served in the British army and was wounded at Lundy's Lane during the war of 1812. He was in receipt of a pension, but in the 1830's he took a grant of land in Ontario in place of his pension. Carol discovered quite a bit of info about him attached to the land record of his grant. If the ancestor received a grant of land, it would be worth a trip to the Ontario Archives to see what might be had in the land record. Even wills have been found in some cases.

My great grandfather, William Henry Jelly, married Ellen Mahon who was born in Ontario around 1839 in Adelaide Township of Middlesex County.  Her parents, and thus my 2x great great grandparents were Samuel Mahon 1795 - 1875 and Jane Gibson Mahon 1802 - 1882.  Rumour has it that they were from County Meath or Dublin and that Samuel had been or was in an Irish army group....don't know if he was still in the army when they came to Canada around 1836.  They eventually settled near London , Ontario and are buried in the cemetery at Poplar Hill.
Obviously this is scant info.....any suggestions re how I might learn more about them?  Any knowledge of military groups sent out to the London, Ontario area?
