A family researcher in Nfld was puzzled over a gravestone with the first
name of Thomas on it, they had the family records and knew there was no
son named Thomas. They contacted the only living brother and asked who
Thomas was, the brother said his name was really John but he always
wanted to be like his Father so he started calling himself Tom (father's
name). He moved away and got married and then returned home later on in
life, when he died his wife arranged for the headstone. However she
only knew him as Tom !!!
