This is not true. The four locomotives of the WDW Railroad were
built by Baldwin between 1916 and 1928 as wood-burners for the
United Railways of Yucatan. They were converted while still in
service in Mexico to burn Bunker C.
When the locomotives (plus a fifth that was scrapped before
service) were brought to Florida, Tampa Shipyards converted them
to burn low-sulfur #2 fuel oil -- the same as used by Disney's
bus fleet.
In recent years, there has been a gradual conversion to a mix of
#2 and bio-fuel; not sure if that's bio-*diesel* or something
else, but they do smell of french fries. None have ever been
equipped to run on gas of any kind.
And for those who don't yet know me, I was a Conductor and
Trainer on the WDW RR from 1999 to 2006, and since then have been
giving tours of the Magic Kingdom. Prior to 1999, I was the
director of the Kalmbach Memorial Library in Chattanooga, and I
remain the Director of Education for the Layout Design Special
Interest Group.
Cheers,
