      Hello,

Urgent Action Alert - Horrendous Dog Dragging Case
      July 31, 2003

A Pennsylvania man was charged with animal cruelty after hitting a dog recently with his pickup truck and then dragging the injured animal several miles before stopping. Reports indicate that the suspect Paul Bell, hit the dog and drug the helpless animal about four or five miles. The suspect admitted hitting the dog and claimed he could not find a place to pull off the road. The dog died shortly after Bell stopped in a parking lot.

Misdemeanor charges were filed against Bell at the office of District Justice Jay Weller in Washington County, PA. Bell is scheduled for a trial date of August 6th. According to the Judge's office, Bell will be found guilty or not guilty on that day, and sentenced for his crime. Read a related news article at:

Contact the DA and copy the Judge in this case asking for the maximum sentence for his actions. A misdemeanor charge certainly does not fit the crime that was committed against this helpless dog.

      Dear Mr. Pettit:

I am writing you to urge that you prosecute Paul Bell, the Chartier Township
man who was charged with charged with animal cruelty after hitting a dog recently or list the date with his pickup truck, then dragging the injured animal several miles before stopping.

His actions can only be described as criminal in my opinion he should be charged with felony animal cruelty. It is my hope that you will endeavor to seek the appropriate penalty for this very cruel act. I can't imagine how it must have felt for this helpless dog to be hit and then dragged 5 miles before he actually died.

No individual should be allowed to commit this kind of crime without facing a stiff penalty. Since Mr. Bell was only charged with a misdemeanor, I hope that you will exact a swift and effective prosecution.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
