Subject: Very important info!! Barcelona must be free of bullfights
Please forward this information to all your contacts, this is very important!!
we would like to ask you to take part in the following campaign:
BARCELONIANS: NO MORE BULLFIGHTS!
Recent investigation of animal protectors WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) and ADDA (Asociacion Defensa Derechos Animal), Spain, proves that 63% of the inhabitants of Barcelona doesn't want bullfights in their city anymore. Barcelona has to be declared "bullfight-free" before the city will be hosting the "Universal Forum of Culture" in 2004. This Forum is a large scaled international event, where people from several countries will be present. Bullfighting has nothing to do with culture, so it has to be abolished as soon as possible, starting with Barcelona. WSPA and ADDA are using their research results to convince the Barcelona city council to abolish the bullfights in their city. This could be the first step to the abolition of bullfights in Catalonia (North Spain) and eventually the rest of the world!
You can help by signing a petition to call on the mayor of Barcelona to abolish the bullfights in his city. You can do this by visiting the following website:
Click on: "take action!", fill in your data and click on: "send form".
We also heard that the English architect Richard Rogers is planning to reconstruct the bullfighting arena "Las Arenas" in Barcelona into a leisure centre. The arena hasn't been used for bullfights for more than ten years, but it is used for concerts and political gatherings. At the end of the 19th century, there were three bullfighting arenas in Barcelona. Now, only one is used, because the interest in bullfights has decreased (also among the Spaniards). According to the ADDA president, bullfights in Barcelona are mainly visited by tourists and hardly by the Spaniards. So it's important to keep asking the tourists not to visit any bullfights!
Please, join us in this WSPA/ADDA campaign. Of course you can send this e-mail to friends and family. The more people take part in this campaign, the better.
Thank you very much!
