I am helping a writer for the Freedom Socialist newspaper draft an article on sheltered workshops. In Oregon, eight individuals had the courage to file a class action lawsuit against the State of Oregon. Because it is a class action lawsuit all individuals with disabilities in Oregon in sheltered workshops.
I am interested in seeing sheltered workshop being phased out. This includes integration of individuals with disabilities in the workplace instead of segregation at lower pay with the overturning of laws that allow companies to pay individuals below minimum wage.
Does anyone supports this struggle and has any more information about this lawsuit or current fights against sheltered workshops in the US?
And are the fight against sheltered workshops just a US phenomenon or are their other countries with similar struggles?
I would appreciate any helpful information
