Re: [digsstv] Re: hamdrm.dll> cleaning contacts
I'm glad that works for you (grounding), But, for some reason it doesn't work for everybody.. Some people that have grounded there computer causes nothing but trouble ( even to different grounds).. and others it has worked great.. I've never found an answer to the problem ( I think most of the time its "ground loop").. Most interfaces today strive for complete ground isolation (I'm one who has tried many different ways to ground computer, but always end up with a problem.) The antenna problem I solved with a T4 ununbalum.. I will never put another antenna without one..

Subject: Re: [digsstv] Re: hamdrm.dll> cleaning contactsI, for 1, have found it a positive thing to ground the computer case, along with most, if not all, other groundable accessories (like tuners, radios, etc) in order to help eliminate rf in the shack and lessen the chance of ground loops (that humm is coming from where?). I know that so far it has eliminated a LOT of my hair pulling to do so. Running Flex 5000A w/P4 machine and it helped me. Of course it most certainly helps to get your antenna higher as well. Mine is up finally to 30' from 11' a few days ago.----- Original Message -----On the static Proublem, Is it good to connect the station ground to the computer case?
- There is a BIG difference between grounding the negative lead and grounding the case. Many times as you saw the negative lead is isolated from he case. Personally I think it is always a good idea to ground the case of computers and everything.Stan, WA2UET----- Original Message -----From: Commander JohnSent: Sunday, September 07, 2008 7:46 PMSubject: Re: [digsstv] Re: hamdrm.dll> cleaning contact, Now grounding computers? If equipment does not have a ground lug for direct grounding I do not think you should ground it.That dude Jay at array solutions told me to ground my astron rs-35M power supply negative supply lead. A very loud arcing sound resulted from something. The supply survived and still works. I was lucky that day. Exercise caution in this regard. Just because someone big says something doesn't make it right or true. Ask Walter Maxwell about bad information that is around. He wrote a book about it.
