The heart is, ultimately, the source of our pulse, that rhythm of life
which circulates through all parts of the body. I like to think of
Jesus' divine heart calmly, tenaciously, robustly beating within his
mystical body, circulating his life-blood, his Spirit, his refreshment
and nourishment throughout each one of us. In prayer, as we clear our
minds and turn to the Lord, we have a chance to become aware of this
divine rhythm in the pulse of our soul, to discern beneath the lop-
sided irregularities of everyday circumstances and our own confused
emotions the steadiness of what sustains us, God's never-failing
providence and the constant infusion of life upon which depend moment
by moment. Pray. Feel the pulse.
The Sacred Heart pulses with God's life.
