Neven Hrustic was born in Zagreb , Croatia on St. Cecilia’s day, the Patron Saint of Music, on November 22, 1975. He studied guitar at the Music Academy of Zagreb with Istvan Römer and at the Academy of Music in Graz ( Austria ) with Martin Myslivecek.
He participates in concerts and performances as a soloist, and cooperates with many Croatian and foreign conductors, singers and guitar players. He has offered recitals in the most renowned concert halls in Croatia , including performances in England , Slovenia , and Austria .
In 2002, he founded a guitar duo with Slovak guitarist Tereza Balazova, a duo which instantly became one of the top chamber music ensembles in Europe .
His main interests are compositions of South American composer, Agustin Barrios, and during the years it has been approved both from the public and critics. Besides that, very important place in his work is taken by the compositions of Croatian composers, especially those who belong to the Croatian early music (from the earliest printed materials in Croatian music, lute ricercari of Franciscus Bossinensis to the madrigals of Dubrovnik monk Vincenzo Comnen which were meant to be performed on the baroque guitar).
His research work according to the Croatian early music is very significant. Among those already known, he gave the first modern performances of many compositions from that period, including the music of Francesco Sagabria - the first known composer from Zagreb .
Neven Hrustic plays a guitar made by Petr Matousek in 2006.
