In the episode of Superman entitled "The Birthday Letter" when a
little crippled girl accidentally got a phone message about a crime
and the crooks wanted her to tell them what was said but she couldn't
remember, the female crook, Marie, for some odd reason, was French,
when the actress herself was born in New York.
Someone would describe Marie and the man with her when they inquired
"She was kind of plain," the witness would say.
Nan Boardman was her name. Can you imagine being a woman and trying
to make a name for yourself as an actress in the vane world of
Hollywood and have your character, especially when you are doing an
exotic French character, described as being "plain."
Needless to say, Nan didn't do much more after this.
