155Ways of Giving by Dhammavuddho Thero
- Jun 10, 2007"Generally the practice of dana means the giving of material things.
But one can also give one's energy in physical labour, or kind words
of sympathy, appreciation, and advice. Some people also give their
whole life of selfless dedication to a worthy cause. The giving of
knowledge can be of great benefit to others. For example, rather than
give a man a meal which helps him for only one day, if one teaches him
a skill by which he earns a livelihood, one helps him for a lifetime.
Of all the gifts, the gift of Dhamma, is the highest. The Dhamma
teaches us the laws of existence which is important to know so that we
can live in accord with them and thus avoid pain and suffering in this
and future lives."
