        In addition to Insulation's Dielectric Constant there is another
        important property called Dissipation Factor. It deals with how quickly
        the Voltage potential stored in the insulator is released. Matthew Bond
        of Tara Labs did a nice "white" paper on it that used to be available on
        their website.

        A third property to consider is the insulator's permeability. If the
        insulator material will absorb moisture or gases its Dielectric &
        Dissipations Numbers can go up.....and in this case up is bad.

        You can go to the matweb site http://matweb.com/index.asp?ckck=1 and
        find out more than you ever want to know. For example you can look up
        the materials, steatite, micalex phenolic plastic, etc. used to make
        tube sockets. It will make you wonder why you have been saving all those
        white ceramic (steatite) tube sockets.
