      Top Financial Firms, including Merrill Lynch, Will Make Financial Case for Strong Climate Policy at Capitol Hill News Conference at 2 ET on Monday

      NEWS ADVISORY//March 19, 2007///For the first time, dozens of leading U.S. investors on Monday will call on Congress to enact strong federal legislation to tackle global climate change. Joined by major corporations in the electric power, oil and high-tech sectors, institutional investors and asset managers from all parts of the country will announce that clear regulatory signals – with tangible greenhouse gas reduction goals – are needed so that US businesses can respond to the competitive risks and opportunities from climate change.

      The announcement will be made at a news conference to be webcast live at 2 p.m. ET on March 19, 2007 in Room 283-285 at the Hall of States, 444 N. Capitol Street, Washington D.C.
      The announcement, coordinated by Ceres and the Investor Network on Climate Risk, will include such leading investors as Merrill Lynch and the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), the nation’s largest public pension fund, representing trillions of dollars in capital.

      News event participants will be: Fred R. Buenrostro, chief executive officer of CalPERS Connecticut State Treasurer Denise Nappier; California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer Mark Goldfus, senior vice president at Merrill Lynch & Co.
