      Jack,

I had never noticed that the Champion thumb piece sticks out more than
      the Original bug.

The Champion had a trapezoid shaped thumb piece - and I always thought
that was shorter than the long oval of the new type finger piece of
the Original. (All old Vibroplex keys had the trapezoid finger
pieces, but the Champion kept the old style for some reason.

I'll have to go measure my Champion.

The thumb piece of my 2007 Original extends 1 & 3/8 inches from the
base. The trapezoidal thumb piece on my 1945 Champion measures 1 &
1/2 inches from the base -- just enough to notice when placed in the
        wooden case.
