Who Should Attend?
This conference is for anyone interested in learning more about how to plan a Powder Horn course. Future course directors, assistant course directors, staff advisors and other staff members make up the majority of our participants This conference is REQUIRED for the Course Director, Staff Advisor, and the Assistant Course Director assigned as the backup Course Director within two years of the course start. Councils considering holding a course in 2012, 2013 and even 2014 are strongly encouraged to send the anticipated course director and several others to the 2011 Conference. Information presented will provide a strong foundation as you plan for your course.
* Have a desire to be a Powder Horn course director.
* Be approved by your Scout Executive as a future Powder Horn Course Director.
* Be approved by the appropriate hosting region
* Have attended a Powder Horn or will attend a Powder Horn
An experienced staff of past and current Powder Horn course directors will cover a wide range of Powder Horn topics, including: course standards and guidelines, course format, council & regional approval process, budgeting, staff selection & development, participant recruiting, logistics planning, program planning and instruction, newsletters, resource & give away items, living history, working with teens, website & e-mail resources, etc. Ample time will be dedicated to answering questions about how to run a successful course. NOTE: The Powder Horn syllabus has been updated with many changes. Come learn about all the updates.
