The Central Region Area 3 Venturing Committee is proud to announce the 2011-2012 Area 3 Venturing Vice Presidents. Please join me in congratulating our three new officers. Their term of office starts on June 3rd.
Vice President of Administration
Tom Wester Potawatomi Area Council
Tom Wester is currently a junior at Brookfield East High School in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Tom has earned his Eagle Scout award and is the current President of Crew 21 in Brookfield, WI sponsored by Trinity United Church of Christ. Tom is heavily involved in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. This past semester, Tom finished with a 4.05 overall GPA and was recently commended for being a National Merit Scholar. Tom competes on the Track, Swimming, and Cross Country teams at school and has earned his Varsity Letter in Cross-Country. He is a member of Student Council, National Honors Society, Key Club, and Interact Club. Furthermore, he is the President of the BEHS Aerospace club. Tom is also heavily involved with music. He is the principal trumpet and section leader of both the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra's Senior Symphony and Chamber Orchestra. This past summer Tom attended the Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) camp at the United States Naval Academy and is extremely interested in attending a service academy upon graduation from high school.
Vice President of Communication
Rachel Levine Greater St Louis Area Council
Rachel Levine is the Secretary for Crew 685 in the Greater St. Louis Area Council as well as the Vice President of Communication for New Horizons District Venturing Officer Association. She has earned her Venturing Outdoor Bronze and the Pope Pius Award. Currently she is working on her Religious Bronze, Gold Award and Silver award. She has participated in a Philmont trek, VLSC, and plenty of district and council events. Among those, she has helped plan and staff Scout Quest 100, the National Venturing Event in 2010, and Mobile Lock-in. Right now she is helping plan the upcoming Fall Fun Rally, the largest Venturing event in the country.
Rachel is a sophomore honor student at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, MO. She plays clarinet in the top band and also mentors freshmen in band. She plays field hockey and High School CYC soccer, is in Student Council, and helps with theater costume crew. She participates in her church's youth group helping with activities and going on retreats. In the future she plans on helping with her school yearbook and being a section leader in band.
For this upcoming year, Rachel hopes to improve the connection between the councils of Area 3. She wants to make sure that everyone knows about the activities and opportunities available to them. She also hopes to keep all records, including the newsletter, up-to-date and well circulated through the Area.
Vice President of Program
Whitfield Montgomery Greater St Louis Area Council
Whitfield Montgomery is President of Crew 2023 in the Greater St. Louis Area Council. But this is not your typical Venturing Crew. It has 210 crew members. His crew is the JROTC unit at Vashon High School in St. Louis. He also serves as the Grand Towers District Venturing Officer Association President. Whitfield has completed VLSC. He attended the National Venturing Event last fall and Winterfest in Gatlinburg, TN. He serves as a Student Ambassador of St. Louis Public Schools and as the Superintendent's Liaison for Student Government. He has been inducted in the Top Teens of America.
Whitfield is a college freshman majoring in Criminal Justice at Harris Stowe State University. Upon graduation he would love to serve as an officer in the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department while also pursing politics. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Republican Party Youth Council for the State of Missouri. Whitfield wrote in his Area VP Application "Helping others enriches your life, strengthens your spirit and fuels your dream."
