Thomas Vincent, The Shorter Catechism of the
Westminster Assembly Explained and Proved<br>from Scripture:
"Q. 3. How many covenants hath God made with
man?<br>A. There are two covenants which God hath made with
man 1. A covenant of works; 2. A covenant of grace.
<br>Q. 4. When did God enter into a covenant of works
with man?<br>A. God did enter into a covenant of works
with man immediately after his creation, when he was
yet in a state of innocency, and had committed no
sin."<br>"Q. 6. By virtue of which covenant of God is it that
his elect are saved?<br>A. 1. Not by virtue of the
      covenant of works. "<br>- thebishopsdoom<br>Augustine:
"But even the infants, not personally in their own
life, but according to the common origin of the human
race, have all broken Gods covenant in that one in
whom all have sinned. Now there are many things called
Gods covenants besides those two great ones, the old
and the new, which any one who pleases may read and
know. For the first covenant, which was made with the
first man, is just this: 'In the day ye eat thereof, ye
      shall surely die.'"
