It is with considerable sadness that I write this report, for two reasons. One is that we have lost our friend and fellow reporter, Tvor, very recently and very unexpectedly, and the other is that we are no longer able to continue to cover all the episodes, so this is my last one. I have been doing this for over 12 years now, so it's been quite a chunk of my life. It's the end of an era.
Anyway, without further ado, here is the update for Wednesday 28th March, 1st episode.
Carla and Aiden meet up on their way to Underworld. Aiden wants to try to get in early, before Johnny, and Carla remarks that he won't have to worry about that for much longer.
Pat and Eileen leave Summer at the bus stop to catch the bus to school, then Pat goes off on his own and Eileen makes her way to the taxi office. Tim is outside the taxi office, on the phone to Faye, telling her that while 'that scumbag' is still living over the road, she's just going to have to put up with living with his dad. Eileen, just around the corner, hears all this. As Tim hangs up, Eileen asks him if everything is all right, and Tim tells her it isn't, and she and Pat need to get their house on the market and move away as soon as possible, or the police will get a phone call about the scam.
In the back room of the pub, Toyah and Leanne are planning to make the pub family friendly and thinking about a children's menu and high chairs. Simon comes in, looking for his football kit, but Lianne tells him he's not going because he mugged Audrey and put her in hospital, he's grounded for a month. Simon then slams out of the door in a temper.
The doctor comes to see Audrey in the hospital, she's bored and fed up and wants to go home, but apparently her fracture is more serious than they thought and she has to stay longer.
Eileen is in the cafe, looking fed up, when Liz comes in. Eileen tells her that Tim has threatened again to go to the police if they don't move away. Just then Pat comes in, and Eileen gets up to leave, telling him she has to get back to work. When she's gone, Pat turns to Liz and says he hopes she hasn't been upsetting Eileen, Liz tells him that she wouldn't upset her, Eileen is her friend. As Liz leaves, Phelan gets a phone call and starts talking to someone about a cottage.
Seb is working on the building site, and the gaffer tells him he's impressed with his work, especially considering who his last boss was. Seb asks what he means, and is told that Pat did two of the concrete pillars on the site, two days before he was supposed to, alone, in the rain, and after everyone else had clocked off. They're a mess. He tells Seb that now they have to knock them down and start again. All this is being listened to with interest by another worker.
Jenny takes coffee into the Underworld office and is disappointed to learn that Johnny won't have time to look at Spanish villas with her, he's got to stay at the factory as they are having new machines delivered. Aiden remarks that you wouldn't think Johnny was just helping out temporarily. “No,” mutters Jenny through gritted teeth, “you wouldn't.”
Back in the pub, Leanne is still thinking about the kids' menu. Toyah remarks that there should be a vegetarian option. Leanne is sceptical, she doesn't know many vegetarian kids. (!) Steve comes in then, to see Oliver, and Leanne is still grumpy with him over the marker pen on his face. Steve offers to take the baby off to the park, and Leanne says it's fine, but he has to keep him away from Tracy, after what she said. Steve says ok, and takes Oliver out. When he's gone, Toyah tries to talk about the situation with Tracy, but Leanne snaps that she's worried enough about Simon without worrying about her as well.
Back on the building site, the guy who was listening to Seb and the gaffer is now on the phone to Phelan, telling him how they're planning on knocking down the pillars Pat put up. He then asks when he's going to get his 80 quid, but it seems Pat hangs up at that point. As he walks off in disgust, we see that Seb has been standing on a plank above him and heard every word. He immediately rings Gary and asks if he and Tim could meet him later, he thinks he knows where Pat has hidden the gun he used to kill Luke!
Break
Pat arrives home and shows Eileen the estate agent's details for a cottage that's for sale, that has two bedrooms, a big garden and is a five minute walk from the sea. He tells her he's arranged to rent it for a week to see if they like it. Eileen however, is less than thrilled and says she can't go anyway, she can't leave Summer there on her own while Billy is still in rehab.
Carla is in the cafe talking to Roy when Peter comes in and tells them he needed to get out of the pub for a while. Toyah is still talking about making it more 'family friendly'. Roy is worried it will affect his business in the cafe. Peter tells him it's all Toyah's idea, he just does what he's told. “Unlike your son...!” snaps Roy. Carla is intrigued by this exchange and wants to know what it's all about. Eventually Peter says he will tell her, but not right there and then, so they go off together.
Johnny comes into the cafe and is hailed by Jenny, who asks if he's got a minute. He hasn't, he's got to grab a sandwich and get back to the factory.
Pat is in the house when Summer gets back from school. She sees the property details, and Pat tells her he wanted to take Eileen there for a week away, but they can't go because someone has to look after her. He piles on the pressure, saying that Eileen could use a break, it hasn't been an easy couple of months. Summer then tells him to leave it with her, she'll be back in a bit, and runs out of the house.
Upstairs in Roy's flat, Peter admits to Carla that Simon was one of the gang who mugged Audrey. He says that Audrey knows and Simon has apologised to her, and she's not going to go to the police, although he wonders if maybe she should. Carla reckons he's got in with the wrong crowd, he's not a little kid any more and Peter shouldn't blame himself. Peter reckons he hasn't been there enough for Simon.
Jenny goes into the Kabin where Rita tells her she's about to go to see Audrey in the hospital. Jenny tells her she's found a wonderful villa in Spain, but Johnny has been too busy to look at it online. She wonders if she should just put a deposit on it without telling him – that would make his mind up! Rita tells her that's not a good idea, but urges her to talk to him.
Steve is in the cafe with Olly when his phone rings, it's Tracy, so he doesn't answer.
Seb is in the cafe, talking to Tim and Gary about Pat Phelan and the concrete pillars. He tells them how he heard one of the labourers phone Pat and tell him what was going on, and how it was obvious that he was being paid to do it. He doesn't think that Pat would go to all that trouble if he wasn't hiding something. He's sure it's the gun, and he thinks they should go and find it before it's lost forever. Tim says he can't help because he has to think of Faye, but Gary agrees to go with Seb and help look for it.
Liz and Toyah are discussing the vegetarian options on the new pub menu. Liz doesn't think that they're suitable for a place like the Rovers. Toyah tells her that people's tastes are changing and they are going to change with them.
Peter goes back to the pub where Leanne tells him that Simon hasn't come back from school and isn't answering his phone.
Rita arrives to see Audrey, with a handful of magazines – they just happen to be the same as the ones she's already got! She's fed up and begs Rita to get her out of there.
Simon is back in Coronation Street with the gang of lads. Carla sees him and calls him and tells him he should go home. One of the other lads comes over and starts getting smart and arsy with her, she tells him she's not scared of him. “Maybe you should be,” says the lad, as the others surround her.
Pat is up in the office, putting money and both his and Eileen's passports into a bag. When he hears her coming up the stairs he hides it quickly. Eileen tells him that Summer has arranged to stay at Dev's with his children, while she and Pat go away. He gives her a kiss and tells her she won't regret it.
