It is with huge sadness that I am writing  this Monday update which is normally undertaken by Diane / Tvor (The Voice of Reason).  Last week I stood in as she had indicated she was unwell, in hospital and it was nothing serious.  However sadly I have to advise that on Thursday we were told she had died.  This would have been almost her last words for us.

She has for a long time worked on the Corrie Blog with @Flaming_Nora and I can not better her comments:
      https://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.co.uk/2018/03/a-tribute-to-our-blogger-our-friend.html
Her loss will be felt very keenly in Canada where she would ensure that the ITV releases reached the local Corrie community at the "right" time for the episodes concerned (they are about two weeks behind).

I would just like to thank her for all of her efforts for these updates and her guidance and advice to those undertaking updates.  Diane - taken from us far too soon - Rest in Peace.

      Update

These are episode 9412 & 9413.  Written by Chris Fewtrell and directed by Judith Dine.  Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Vandals have written in red paint on Maxeem's bench which Roy is trying to clean - it will need a proper sanding and varnishing as Roy explains to Gail who offers to help.  Gail volunteers to do some shifts in the cafe but Shona and Alex are covering Anna's hours so Roy does not need Gail.

In the Rovers Leanne is explaining to her sisters the local family event which Henry Newton is leading for the brewery this afternoon as a publicity exercise.  "The Pub family behind Your Family Pub" (and they chose the Rovers?).    Peter knew but had not told Toyah - after all it is hardly a family pub.  Now they have to get Si to agree to participate!  Leanne asks Steve and Tracy to babysit Oliver and Tracy uses it as an excuse to crowbar Amy into the Rovers family photograph.  Leanne does not agree and goes to clean up the pub!  Tracy tells Steve off for not supporting her!  Later on Steve and Tracy bicker.  Oliver has been playing with semi-permanent marker and and has decided to put it all over his face!

Martin returns to the Street (he never mentions that it looks a lot larger these days!) and inside David is trying to convince David and Lily that NZ will be fantastic.  And Shona wants to know if it means more to David than she does.  Martin enters this scene of domestic strife as he has contacts David might find useful.  David introduces Shona to Martin and vice versa (so in the last year they have never met and yet David is upset by Martin emigrating ... as Diane might say who writes this stuff?)  Shona stomps off to work.  David lies to Martin saying Shona is not much of a morning or evening person - there is about half an hour in the afternoon!  Anyway David is sure they will be moving.  Martin is going to see some people and perhaps they can catch up this afternoon.  Later on Martin and Gail are having a drink in the Rovers with Sarah serving and he gets to meet Gary as well (and how long have they been on and off - and Martin was her adoptive father).  Later still at the salon that wonderfully intelligent and sane voice of Maria points out to David that she had not heard that NZ needed stylists - will he be able to get a visa?  Perhaps he should speak to the NZ embassy before making plans (David is looking at buying air tickets online).

At the cafe Brian orders a poached egg with his sausage and bacon barm - he is taking care of himself.  Shona relates that Gail has taken to only having a single glass of wine - and observes that she really should have a lifeguard in attendance given the size of the glass.  Roy also says he turned down employing Gail as he thought her presence might upset Shona.  Audrey overhears and wonders why Gail needs a job.  Then Brian mentions that he saw Gail with an intense lady in the Bistro (Rosemary - who is charging for her consultations).  Audrey adds 2 and 2.  A little later Roy overhears Audrey's explanation to Brian and volunteers to debunk the medium, whom he calls an incorrigible charlatan exploiting the vulnerable.  Gail denies she is vulnerable - but nothing has gone right since Richard Hillman who has cursed her.  Anyway as Audrey points out her bad luck dates back to Brian (her first husband).  Roy is convinced that he must meet Rosemary asap.

Gary has been visiting Faye - but Seb has stayed outside Tim's father's house.  They are both now working on Legacy Reach now that Phelan is not there.

Roy and Brian meet Rosemary in the salon - Brian is not so sure the medium can be debunked.  The myth is that Roy needs to contact someone on the other side (of the ad break).  After some interplay Roy is quite clear that she has produced nothing of any substance other than through careful study of him.  Debunked completely.  Rosemary refuses to work with such scepticism in the room.  Roy asks for his wife's name (and not for proof of the Goldbach conjecture: https://artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.php?title=Goldbach_Conjecture ).  Rosemary refuses to be placed under trial and Roy feels entirely vindicated.  Rosemary leaves and Audrey chases after her and tells her to stop seeing Gail.  Rosemary insists that if a client needs help then she is going to provide it.  In the background there are a group of youths in dark jackets and hoodies.

Audrey, Brian and Roy leave the salon for a drink in the Rovers and Audrey is mugged with one of the kids grabbing her bag.  Roy and Brian launch themselves on two of the muggers - the bag is held back but Audrey falls to the floor and an ambulance is needed.  One of the lads is held down but the other one gets away on his bike.  At the hospital Audrey is in bed with Brian and Roy telling Gail what happened.  The one mugger caught was not telling the police who else was involved.  Audrey has to explain why Roy and Brian were at the salon.  Gail believes the mugging is yet another example of the Hillman curse.  Roy however seems to have something on his mind.  Audrey has to have an X-ray and bickers with Gail over the existence of the "Hillman" curse.

In the Rovers Pat is on the phone to Mona - his final payment has not been made and she wants to see him and will be over shortly as there is a problem - seeing her at 2pm.  Eva has an ante-natal class but because Henry Newton is coming for the promotion Toyah cannot go with her.  And Leanne cannot find Oliver as Steve is not answering his phone.  And Simon has not come home either.  Leanne is in full rant mode over both of them.  Leanne goes to collect Oliver, promising to push Tracy through the window (in the background Martin overhears and gets in a crafty smile to camera over her shoulder!) and Peter is sent to find Simon.  Martin (nurse and therefore able to get a visa) reckons that Audrey has broken her ankle!  It might halt David's emigration plans if Audrey is unable to work.  Josh has wandered in and is surprised by the news that his best mate (as Sarah performs the introductions) is emigrating.  As Leanne tries to rush out of the Rovers Roy comes in and insists on talking to her and Peter.  He says Simon is one of Audrey's muggers.  He recognised Si's voice.  Peter disputes it - but Roy is certain.  Roy will dob him into the police if Si does not do the right thing.  Roy does not blame the parents for Si's behaviour.

Boss at Legacy Reach, Mona turns up at Eileen's.  She tells Pat the two pillars he poured in the rain are crumbling as the temperature was wrong and they have to be knocked down and rebuilt.  He will be hearing from her solicitor.  And of course two bodies, a gun and a phone will be found when they do!  Pat can see a noose descending.

Pat hands the factory keys back to Carla and Aidan and final payment is to be made tonight by Aidan.  Carla is keen to get going - she will order machines (that should have been done weeks ago for delivery today!).  Aidan needs to find some machinists - he is told to talk to the girls and see how many want their jobs back.

Apparently Lorde is on the NZ embassy on a loop for those waiting to speak to a human being.  Apparently she is famous.  Shona asks David for an explanation of why he wants to emigrate.  Before David can tell her about Josh Martin returns.  Martin tells David and Shona that Josh does not think David is thinking straight.  David says Josh is no friend of his - and even Shona is surprised by this news.  Martin tells David he should not make a decision he might regret.  David storms out of the house like a toddler.  Martin admits that he had it all with Gail and the family and he threw it away.  Sarah bring Max and Lily home and they both tell David they do not want to go to NZ.  Sarah tells David that no-one apart from him wants to go to NZ.  David goes back to work.

Summer is hugging a copy of New Scientist is looking at Aidan's advert for machinists.  He gently points out she can do far better.  He assures the best she can do for Billy is to get to uni and become an astrologer - or as she points out an astronomer.  She needs to make Billy proud he tells her.  Later Aidan reports to Carla that the old team will be back minus Eva and Sean.

Henry and photographer arrive.  No sign of any children - only Eva's bump.  Liz cannot remove the semi-permanent marker from Oliver's face.  Steve knows Leanne is about to commit his murder.  Peter spots Si diving into a ginnel under the arches and soon catches up with him at the back of the Rovers.  Si denies knowing about the mugging and not being at school.  Peter puts him right.  Peter does not understand how Si could do it to a neighbour.  Si starts crying.  He alleges the others made him do it and Peter says they will not go to the police.  After the break he also confesses to Ken and they go to the hospital to apologise to Audrey, he keeps blaming the others.  Peter leans on Ken to smooth the way and save Si from Young Offenders.  Si does not look bothered.

Martin tries to make it up with David - but the latter will not explain what he needs to run away from - and he assures Martin it is not a woman.  David makes it all about Kylie's death 10 yards away.

Simon is apologising to Audrey and Ken says Simon has fallen in with a bad crowd and has learned his lesson.  Si apologises to Roy as well.  Peter asks Audrey if the police could be left out of the discussion.  Audrey prevails on Roy not to take it further.

In t'Rovers Rosemary is working on Gail again, but she has decided not to take it further.  Still no family for the photos.  Henry Newton asks after Gemma.  Steve appears at the back of the bar and summons Toyah who rushes into the hallway to see Oliver in Tracy's arms with Any's semi-permanent marker pen strokes still all over his face.  Toyah accuses Tracy of sabotaging the photo shoot because Amy was excluded.  Leanne comes downstairs and she is even more upset by the pen markings!  She grabs Oliver and then Eva appears and also screams at the sight of Oliver's face.  Tracy says it is not her fault - and after all Oliver is a bit thick - Les Battersby's grandson will never end up on University Challenge!  Leanne is not amused.  And then Eva has a bright idea.  She adds some makeup and when Oliver is presented to Henry he thinks it is "Spiderman".  Oliver and the three sisters are photographed and Leanne explains Si mugged Audrey.  Henry believe the Rovers will be a flagship venue for "Family Local".  And could they say Hi to Gemma for him please?  Si and Peter return after Henry has left and Leanne is brought up to date.

Pat brings flowers for Eileen - he wants another chance.  She says she is sticking it out and leaves him to cook as she is off to the Rovers.  She goes and Pat phones his bank wanting to know how he can close his business and personal accounts with them.

In t'ginnel Simon meets another lad clad in a black anorak.  Simon assures him it is all sorted - he knows which buttons to push and can get out of any difficulty.  He handled the guy who recognised him.  No-one will be going to the police.  They bump fists and both have big smiles.

Martin is saying his farewells to the Platts.  David returns and says he is not going to NZ but he hopes it all works out well for Martin.  They hug and Martin promises to phone from NZ.  Shona cannot get an answer as to why David has changed his mind.  Shona is left looking puzzled.  Outside David sees Martin off and then Josh shouts across from the garage asking if David has changed his mind about running away.  David walks over to Josh and says he is not going anywhere and wants to know why Josh was even talking to Martin.  Josh says Martin should really know how David feels and what is going on in his head.  David tells Josh that he knows nothing about how he feels, or indeed anything about him.  Josh says that is not true and smiles, he knows David intimately - or has David forgotten?  David wants Josh out of his life.  Josh shakes his head and says he likes it here.  Josh says that it does not matter where they might be - it happened, he smiles and tells David to get over it.  David retreats indoors.

      Roll credits.

As I said to my wife as the episode ended given David pushed his own mother downstairs and was planning to incinerate Clayton I do wonder what he will cook up for Josh.

See you for the last time here on Friday.  But @Flaming_Nora has invited me to join the team on the blog and I will be providing some Friday episode reviews over there.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop / Norris Cole or should that be Eileen Derbyshire and Malcolm Hebden?
