And now on with one of my final updates which was written by Carmel Morgan and directed by Judith Dine

Poor Tyrone is mortified that he hit Ruby. She runs off up the stairs and he wonders aloud what came over him.  He says sorry to Hope and tells her it’s never right to slap someone. Finally Fiz can take the guilt no longer. She takes Ty out of the room and comes clean, admitting that it’s been Hope and not Ruby who’s been misbehaving all along.  Ty is shocked and angry at the revelation. He asks how long Fiz has known.

Over at the Platts’ things are getting passionate between David and Shona. She tells him to slow down but then we get treated to an unnecessarily explicit close-up as she starts to unzip his jeans. Suddenly a wild look comes into David’s eyes and he flings out his arm. He grabs the edge of the tablecloth and pulls the party food onto the floor.  Shona’s upset – what just happened?  David feigns an attack of cramp in his leg.  Shona can’t work out what’s going on but she goes off to Freshcos to replenish the food leaving David to nurse his leg.

We return to Ty and Fiz who are having a full-blown row.  Now Ty has the moral high ground and his fling with Gemma pales into insignificance alongside Fiz’s revelation.  Not only can he not contemplate getting back together, he tells Fiz he can barely look at her.  But their shouting match is cut short when Fiz realises Hope has slipped out of the back door while they were arguing.

Gail is in the Bistro with Rosemary who is supposedly channelling Richard Hillman.  Gail is inadvertently giving Rosemary clues and is completely falling for everything she says. Her eyes are out on stalks when Rosemary tells her that Richard has put a curse on her whole family.

Carla is waiting in the Medical Centre but she’s not after a doctor’s appointment.  She’s decided to use her charms on Alex and invites him round to Roy’s for a glass or two of Malbec.  Roy will be out bird watching she explains, giving her the chance to talk to him about Michelle.  At this news, Alex is ready to decline the invitation but Carla turns the charm up a notch and he agrees to go round in an hour.

Shona arrives back from Freshcos with the party supplies to find David hasn’t moved and the food is still all over the floor.  Then the children come in with Sarah and Audrey. David is in a foul mood and Sarah asks Shona what happened.  Shona says she honestly has no idea.

Chesney is at home with Joseph.  He comes downstairs to find Hope has turned up and the children are playing together.  She tells him that Mummy and Daddy are rowing and Joseph shares the news that Ty smacked Ruby.  Chesney looks worried and goes off to ring Fiz.

Round at the Metcalfes’ Tim has been busy with the wallpapering.  Sally comes in and does a double take. The design is quite striking if you like the idea of giant yellow spoons and forks on a black background.  Tim tells Sally that it’s the Italian paper she wanted.  Sally decides that she likes the idea of being avant garde and a leader of fashion.

Fiz has arrived at Chesney’s to pick up Hope.  She tells her brother what’s happened and says she and Hope will have to stay with him for a bit. She gets a taste of her own medicine when Ches says he’s sorry but he can’t risk having Hope and Joseph living under the same roof after what’s happened.

Round at the Platts’ the party is in full swing and Sally’s regaling the assembled company about her Italian designer wallpaper. Meanwhile Audrey is talking about Rosemary the so-called clairvoyant.  She’s realised that she’s a total fraud but for some reason Gail seems to have changed her tune and believes she’s genuine.  Then Josh arrives with a present for Harry. Everyone seems pleased to see him.  Everyone apart from David, that is, who keeps well clear and stands glowering in the kitchen.

      BREAK

Fiz arrives home with Hope and makes her tell Ty what she’s done.  Fiz is in bits when Ty says he’s going to ask Kev if he and Ruby can stay with him.

Alex has arrived for his drink with Carla.  She’s doing her best to explain Michelle’s side of the story and how it feels for her but Alex is dealing with it by burying his head in the sand.  He’s decided he doesn’t need either Michelle or Wendy in his life from now on.  Carla tells him not to deny himself a family as she’s be dead now if it wasn’t for hers.  Alex asks about her new lease of life and whether she has any long-term plans. Carla says one of her goals is to watch Alex and Ryan walk Michelle up the aisle. He laughs and calls it pie in the sky.

Back at the party David is keeping out of things by doing the washing up. While everyone is busy watching Harry blow out his candles Josh sidles up to him. He whispers that David hasn’t said anything about their “special little night”. He adds that he’d put money on the fact that David wouldn’t tell anyone.  As David continues with the washing up Josh jokes that he’d make someone a lovely wife.  David grabs a kitchen knife and turns towards Josh. Shona comes up and takes it from him.  She gives him a look as she tells him they need it to cut the cake.

We return to Carla and Alex who are sitting together on the sofa and the conversation has moved on.  Alex admits that, despite the age gap, he had a crush on Carla when he first met her and it seems it never went away.  He leans towards her and they start to kiss …

Ty has moved in with Kev.  He’s just put Ruby to bed but he’s upset because she refused to kiss him goodnight.  Kev tries to reassure him that kids are resilient and she’ll get over it – he’s more worried about Ty and how this has affected him.  Kev tells Ty that Fiz is the one who’s out of order, if she’d been straight with him, none of this would have happened.  Ty says he can’t forgive Fiz and that they’re over.

Back at the Platts’ David comes downstairs with a packed bag and an announcement. He’s going to stay with Martin in Liverpool to see him before he emigrates and he’s taking the kids.  What about school? David says that’s his problem.  And the salon? He says that’s Audrey’s problem.  Shona goes to get her stuff but David plans to go without her.  Shona looks more concerned than ever.
