Safely operate a corn stove to contain cost and improve health.
HVAC ducts need thermostats, moisture collectors, water pumps, UV
lights - HEPA filters - Air Registers - humidifiers - Dehumidifiers
Do they work? The list reveals the challenges and conceals results.
Corn stoves can be controlled with a thermostat. Corn stoves with
thermostat control will swing room temperature and room relative
humidity (RH) wildly and uncontrollable just like the conventional
HVAC does now.
Medical doctors recommend a humidifier and dehumidifier as well as a
0.3 micron particulate filter. HVAC techs recommend a UV light to
kill germ, molds, and viruses in the dark, moist duct. Right?
Why don't humidifiers, dehumidifiers, UV Duct lights, and HEPA
filters work properly? Pleeeese - Use No thermostat for a corn
stove. Read on to properly operate a whole house corn stove heater
eliminating the thermostat, UV duct light, HEPA filter, humidifier,
Room air flow control and corn stove heat output are individually
adjusted for whole house temperature and RH comfort. The heat output
from corn stoves is steady with a constant room temperature and
fixed relative humidity. Set the corn stove to control RH at 50% for
healthy room conditions. Properly sized and operated Corn stoves
hold the temp steady and thus permit precise RH control at a healthy
50%. A massive and expensive moisture reservoir is challenged to
control RH within 10% with conventional HVAC temperature swings. The
corn stove controls RH automatically.
Pleeeese - no thermostat. Home temperature flunctuations result from
thermostatic HVAC controls. Relative humidity swings almost 3% for
each deg F the temp swings. A 10 deg F temp swing causes the RH to
swing about 25%. By defination, the thermostat allows the temp to
drop 5-10 deg F below set point and RH to rise near 100% before
actuation of a massive heat output for a few seconds quickly raising
the temp 2-5 deg above set point and jerking the RH quickly down to
50-60%. The thermostat will rest a while allowing temp to slowly
drop and RH gradually rise. Then suddenly the thermostat actuates
the HVAC. The temp quickly rises 2-5
deg above set point. The human skin is tough. The sudden change in
vapor pressure from the RH change will burst a pimple.
The thermostat in my house is located in the HALL and controls
temperature in a space where no one but the guinea pig lives. Air
registers in my house are located below each outside window. Window
draft chills the HVAC air before blasting cool air into the human
faces. Saving energy, the corn stove heats the human faces and
spaces first. Leave all air registers wide open. The corn stove will
use the cold HVAC duct as a cold air return. Corn stoves heat
humans. HVAC ducts heat the duct works first. HVAC gets the air cool
at the windows next. HVAC air flows through the duct, past the
window, through the curtains before chilling the baby.
A diligent houseperson is constantly adjusting all the air registers
in every room attempting unsuccessfully to keep the baby warm and
the husband cool. Pleeese give up the thermostat. A thermostat is an
Engineer's drean and an occupant's nightmare. The temp swings the RH
causing dry skin syndrone, exaggerated allergic reaction, and
propagation of germs and viruses. Anyone ever heard of a corn stove
owner having allergy, dry skin, or colds if the corn stove is
constantly operating? If so, please report so other corn stove users
can recommend the corn stove never be shut off, never shut down at
night, and never shut down while gone to work. Corn cost less. Let
corn keep the house warm for the radiant heat, constant filtering of
room air, and constant recirculation of room air to the high corn
temp that kills germs and viruses. Health care persons and nurses
use corn stoves to kill germs accumulated at work.
Size the corn stove to avoid actuation of the conventional HVAC in
the coldest weather. Turn down ratio of corn stoves starts at zero
with no heat output or about the heat of a pilot light.
Corn stoves put out hot heat.
With corn fuel flow turned down to a low settings and the air flow
on a high setting, the sensible perception may be cool.
With Corn stove air flow near 100F, a corn stove continuously
controls the human body at a comfortable 98.6F/50%RH while
continuously heating the room to a steady 70F. Real Cool! There is
no thermostat to shut off the heat, blow cold HVAC air in the face,
swing the temperature, swing the relative humidity. Air registers
remain wide open. HVAC duct remains warm. Sunny South side or Sun
room air circulates to the Windy side of the house.
A thermostat can be used on a corn stove to swing the room temp.and
RH wildly and uncontrollably just like with a conventional HVAC.
Get a life and let the engineers control the thermostats.
Constantly recirculating the room air through the hot heat of the
corn stove will kill the germs, molds, and viruses. No need for UV
lights to kill germs that propagate in the dark, cool HVAC duct. A
HEPA filter element can be places in the air flow path to remove
solid airborne particulate matter. Be patient as it takes the corn
stove two weeks continuous run to automatically control the room
RH. Would you believe so much excess moisture is removed, the
basement walls will change to a lighter color. During the first
week, moisture shadows may be visible along the walls.
Hope this helps.
