You will need a switching power supply with 5 - 7 V and 1.5 A.
The good news is that the 990 works well with 5 V .
I've been using a power supply from a Polaroid Colorshot printer for years
(made by Tokin, Input 100-240V AC, Output 5V 1.5A DC) from a surplus bin.
The Power supply is half the size of a cigarette box.
If you use your coolpix stationary near a computer you may also connect
it to the computer's power supply. (Make sure you connect to the 5V and
polarity is right (center positive).
