      I just read this recipe for Ravioli in the Maria Stenglerin cookbook from
      Augsburg (1554) and I think I see the meaning as sort of dominate,
      predominate, or preponderate in this instance. Would that work for your
      translations - it seems to go along with the meaning Emilio suggested.

      Item niimb ain gesotne hennen, thu die hut vnnd faiste alle darvon, stoss
      klain, im dann ayrdött', die zertreib in ainer schissel, das glat werden,
      vnd nimb gehackten petterlin, vnd ain guttail geribenn kess, vnnd das der
      kess wol fürschlag, nimb ain faistin von ainem marckt bain, vnd gilbs nach

        I think that for now, I'm going to put all these suggestions into the
        notes, and leave it untranslated. Perhaps further enlightenment will
        happen.
