      Board of Trustees of the award-winning Worthington Libraries seeks a
      creative and dynamic director to build on the Librarys excellent
      reputation as a leader in both the library field and the community it
      serves.

      Worthington Libraries serves the City of Worthington, plus the larger
      School District service area (an increasingly diverse population of
      61,153) through its main library and two branches. With three beautiful
      facilities, a dedicated staff (109 FTEs), an active Friends
      organization, and a 2010 operating budget projected at $8.7 million, the
      Library loans 3.5 million items annually and provides an outstanding
      array of programs and services to the community.

      As a vital part of a vibrant community, Worthington Libraries focuses on
      providing future-oriented library service in a spirit of collaboration

      Responsibilities. The Director of the Worthington Libraries will report
      to a seven-member Board of Trustees and work with the Board, staff and
      major stakeholders to achieve the strategic vision for the Library as
      defined in its 2010-2012 Strategic Plan. Overall responsibilities
      include: continuing and building on extensive collaborative partnerships
      with other library systems and community organizations; leading a team
      of talented professionals to manage exceptional library services and
      programs; providing sound fiscal management while continuing to build
      and strengthen resources; and implementing new technologies to diversify

      Qualifications. A masters degree in library science from an ALA
      accredited program; a minimum of five years of professional library
      experience in positions with progressive levels of responsibility; and a
      minimum of three years of experience supervising a system-wide
      department or branch library, preferably in a public library. Essential
      attributes and skills include: creativity, energy and enthusiasm;
      demonstrated success in effectively promoting library services to the
      community; political acumen; collaborative and consensus-building
      skills; experience in providing sound fiscal planning and management;
      and a thorough knowledge of current trends and best practices for
      library service. Proven success working effectively with a
      policy-making board is highly desirable.

      Compensation. A starting salary range of $100,000-120,000 (with final
      placement dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an
      outstanding fringe benefits package.

      Job Description: The William Jeanes Memorial Library, a nonprofit
      corporation, serves the 17,000 residents of Whitemarsh Township
      (Montgomery County). Guided by a seven-member appointed Board, the
      Library staff (currently 10FTE), with an annual budget of $600,000,
      operates a single, 11,000-square-foot 1971 facility circulating 100,000
      items per year. A substantial portion of the library's budget is funded
      by the Township, with additional contributions from the Friends of the
      Library, individual gifts, grants and an annual allocation of
      Commonwealth Library funds. Whitemarsh Township (14.53 square miles) is
      home to excellent public and private schools, preserved open space,
      historic sites, and beautiful public recreation facilities including the
      Schuylkill River. It is immediately adjacent to Philadelphia and linked
      by a network of roads and public transit routes.

      The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills that
      inspire, motivate and engage the community, Board, staff, elected
      officials and potential donors in developing and implementing a shared
      vision for enhanced library service. Desired skills and experience will
      include: strategic planning, budget preparation, facilities and space
      planning, library technology, fundraising and grant writing, and working

      Minimum qualifications for the position include an MLS or MLIS from an
      ALA-accredited school, a minimum of five years of progressively
      responsible public library experience including a least three years
      supervising a public library department or directing a smaller public
      library, and a strong knowledge of library administration with financial
      experience, knowledge of library technologies, and significant staff
      development and management experience desired.

      Qualifications: ALA accredited Masters in Library Science, three to five
      years of cataloging experience (preferably in an academic or research
      library) in a variety of formats, knowledge of current and emerging

      Classification, LSCH, RDA, FAST, FRBR, etc.) and familiarity with

      Duties: Generating tradition original/copy cataloging and metadata to
      enable cross-collection searching for print and digital collections.
      Perform original cataloging in all bibliographic formats; play major
      role in the libraries' digital projects. Creation and development of
      standards for metadata for a variety of digital collections. Participate
      in research and instruction services (e.g. information literacy,
      embedded librarian, teaching freshmen seminar, etc.).
