      Prince George's County Memorial Library System Job Description: The
      Board of Library Trustees of the Prince George's County Memorial Library
      System, serving 841,315 suburban Maryland residents immediately north,
      east and south of the nation's capital, seeks an experienced and
      energetic library leader as its next director. The System serves an
      increasingly diverse population, epitomizing the changing face of
      America's through 18 branches and an active outreach program. With a
      dedicated staff of 346 FTEs, a collection of 1.9 million items and a
      $25.7 million annual budget, the Board seeks an experienced library
      executive capable of transforming the System into a model of innovative
      library programs serving the needs of County residents.



      Responsibilities:

      * The Director of the Prince George's County Memorial Library
      System reports to a seven-member Board of Trustees and has overall
      responsibility for developing and maintaining an effective program of
      library services for the County. Overall responsibilities include:
      developing, monitoring, and implementing a strategic planning process
      resulting in a shared vision for the Library; proposing recommendations
      and implementing Board policies and effective operating procedures;
      developing and maintaining effective internal and external
      communications; providing sound fiscal management while strengthening
      current funding sources and seeking additional revenue sources;
      organizing and administering the System's resources to carry out its
      strategic goals; and representing the Library on a variety of county,

      |Minimum Qualifications:

      * A masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited
      program and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible public
      library experience with at least five years of executive level
      experience in an urban or suburban library. Essential attributes
      include: vision and creativity; skill in leading a diverse team of
      talented professionals to achieve high standards in setting and meeting
      established goals; political acumen; thorough knowledge of budgeting and
      financial management; collaboration and consensus-building skills; and a
      solid understanding of philosophy, trends and best practices in the
      library and information technology fields. Proven experience reporting
      to a policy-making board, collaborating with county or municipal
      officials and working in a union environment is highly desirable.

      Compensation:

      * Starting salary range $135,000.00-165,000.00 (negotiable,
      dependent upon experience and qualifications) with an outstanding fringe
      benefits package.

      The Maine State Library Commission is seeking an experienced and
      innovative individual to

      serve as State Librarian and lead the operations of the Maine State
      Library. The State Librarian

      has responsibility for a $5.1 million operating budget and 51 FTE,
      oversees state grants and

      federal aid to libraries and works with the University of Maine System
      to oversee Maine InfoNet,

      the state's digital library. The librarian recommends legislation for
      the Library Commission to

      present to the State Legislature, regulations to govern the operation of
      State-aided library

      programs and policies to move library services to higher levels. The
      State Librarian reports to the

      Maine Library Commission.

      The Maine State Library has two divisions: Reader and Information
      Services and Library

      Development. The Reader and Information Services Division provides for
      the delivery of

      quality information, reference and loan services to state agency
      personnel and the general public.

      The Maine State Library has the responsibility for the acquisition,
      distribution and maintenance

      of Maine State documents; is a regional library for the blind and
      visually impaired and provides a

      books-by-mail service for those areas of the state not having local
      library service. The Library

      Development Division provides for the development of all types of
      libraries throughout the state.

      This division provides leadership and technical assistance to Maine's
      public, school, academic

      and special libraries. Staff consultants work with librarians, trustees,
      school administrators,

      public officials and local leaders to solve problems and find new ways
      of making library services

      and resources available to their community and help them to take full
      advantage of federal and

      private funding programs like E-rate telecommunications discounts and
      Gates Library

      Foundation grants.

      Required Qualifications: MLS or equivalent experience and at least 10
      years of post-degree

      professional experience such as a director of a major library system;
      director of a comprehensive

      university or research library; or in a management position in a state
      library agency or large

      public library. The successful candidate will have proven leadership
      qualities; demonstrated

      ability to manage programs, staff, technology, and budgets; demonstrated
      vision; have the ability

      to provide effective policy for library services in a geographically
      large state with many

      independent libraries, a rapidly changing electronic and digital
      environment and a history of

      cooperative ventures. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written
      communication skills for

      interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and consensus-building duties.
      The candidate must be

      able to work with all types of libraries, cultural agencies and interest
      groups.

      Preferred Qualifications: Experience working collaboratively with
      libraries, other institutions,

      and with state and federal government. Experience working with
      legislative initiatives.

      Understanding of the information needs of both rural and urban
      environments. Candidates must

      have been active nationally, have and be able to communicate a vision
      for library services for the

      future and have a collaborative leadership style.

      This is a fiscal-year, full-time position with an excellent benefits
      package. The salary range for

      statewide library network. Network support includes all areas from the
      programming and repair of personal computers to maintenance of the
      telecommunication path of routers and server. This position
      troubleshoots software and hardware problems, pulls cables and installs
      hardware in Public Libraries. the initial area of support will be in the
      North Central Region of West Virginia, although the position may also
      support other Libraries as needed. The position reviews Literature and
      recommends purchase of Hardware and software. Responsibilities include
      but are not limited to installing, moving and replacing personal
      computers, terminals, printer cables and other equipment as necessary.
      This position requires travel. Applicant must hold a valid WV Driver
      License to be considered. Duties include performing related work as
      required.

      level. (or) successful completion of Industry recognized
      authorized/certified personal computer or server support, LAN
      Administration, Network Service/Support and/or Network.

      Substitution: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid
      experience in providing direct personal computer support, computer
      programming, systems development, or sale and/or installation and
      peripherals may be substituted for the required training.

      Salary:

      PAY GRADE 012 $26,160.00 - 48,396.00
