          Hello Leonid,

          at first congratulations!

          > Any suggestions about C/2010 X1 orbit?

It is quite funny. I already played around with orbits while the object was still on the NEOCP. What was quite clear, was that the inclination is very small. At first I received prograde and retrograde orbits as well (i=1-2, and i=178). The retrograde solutions showed a small perihelion distance (q=0.2-0.4 AU) and a VERY close approach to Earth for perihelion times in early March 2011. The object should then have been 9mag for a few hours. ;) However, with more astrometry the solution settled more toward a large-q one.

          Look:

          Orbital elements:

But I guess it is more like q=5 AU, and P=20 years.

I expect this comet to be of short or intermediate period and a large perihelion distance. Next days and weeks will show.

          Again, my heartiest congratulations.

              Hello Leonid,

              > What do you think about this short-period solutions?

I wouldn't bet my money for one or the other. Currently the arc is simply too short to gave any firm statement about the true nature of the comet's orbit.

It is just my gut feeling (and to a good part statistical probability) that a large-q solution (i.e. q larger than 3 AU) is closer to the truth. Time will tell.

              Cheers, Maik
