      Howdy from sun-drenched Oregon, USA!

The Foundations of Communities of Practice workshop is
being offered online starting September 6th. Presented by
Etienne Wenger, John Smith, and Bronwyn Stuckey, it
explores what communities of practice are, how they work,
why they are important, and how they can be supported,
      nurtured, and leveraged.

The workshop simulates a community that's global and
generative in the course of seven weeks. It provides the
opportunity to consider community issues in general and
examine a range of specific communities of practice,
whether presented by our guest speakers or by workshop
participants. The actual experience of working in a
community is powerful and is something you really
can't get from a book. For many people the workshop has
been a career-changing experience. Participating in the
workshop opens up ongoing collaborations of many sorts:
many people come back as mentors or guest speakers. In
that sense, as a participant you are welcomed into a real,
      cutting-edge community of practice.

In addition to working on a project of your choice with
others, as a participant you have access to the projects
that other participants have produced over the years. (This
will be the 17th time the workshop has been offered since
1998.) Some samples are available, along with news, and
other details on the CPsquare educational offerings blog:

The workshop space is like a curriculum and the workshop
schedule also is designed to be instructive:

Participation in the workshop involves asynchronous web-
      based conferencing, scheduled teleconferences, and
participant-organized meetings over the Internet. People
spend varying amounts of time in the workshop. Often they
bring projects they are working on at work for a collective
effort that can raise the level of thinking to an
      extraordinarily high level.

The workshop participants come from many different
      industries, countries, organizational settings, and
professions. Guest speakers from leading companies discuss
their experience in implementing community- based knowledge
strategies. Details and registration forms are posted at:

You are warmly invited to join us!
