I have a WP32 but I think it is the same on the WP30. Check the perimeter of the pilot and you will see allen head screws. They hold the idler wheels. If you loosen all of the allen screws you will be able to remove the outer ring to get to the belt. Replacing the belt is difficult. I suggest you have someone help as it is easier with 4 hands.

Look carefully on the port side lower of the autopilot, Mike.  There should be a motor cover there.  A friend of mine removed it - you know what?  I'll forward this to him and see if he can help you w/ removal instructions.  He's done it for his Simrad wheel pilot, and maybe yours works in a similar manner.

Ron, can you help this gentleman?  Respond to columbiasailingyachts, in the To: line of this email.  Thanks!

      Merry Christmas, everyone!

Thanks Jim for telling me of your experience. However, I know that my Simrad Wheelpilot WP 30 is working fine, just the belt has broken and I need to replace it with a new one. The problem is that I don't know how to open the front wheel cover to get the old one out and replace with the new.

I have been told that I can just pry it off, but it does not want to come off and I am afraid to force it. There are some small screws on the back plate which may be the key to getting it off. I was just wondering if someone who has done this before could tell me which way was the correct way.
