Screening and Discussion of the Documentary Film ‘No Woman No Cry’
Thursday, March 7, 2013
E Street Cinema
11th and E Streets, NW
In celebration of ‘International Women’s Day’, the District of Columbia Offices on Women’s Policy, Latino Affairs, African Affairs, and Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs will host a screening and discussion of the documentary film, ‘No Woman, No Cry’, which chronicles the risks and implications of maternal mortality for women in four countries, all of which fall under the purview of partner offices.
No Woman, No Cry’ puts audiences in the footsteps of a Maasai woman in labor who must walk five miles to a clinic in Tanzania with no electricity, a young pregnant woman in the slums of Bangladesh too ashamed to seek out care, a pregnant obstetrician in Guatemala who helps women who have suffered from botched illegal abortions, and a midwife for low-income women in central Florida.
As part of the event, experts in maternal health will offer insight on the preventable nature of maternal death, and the need for universal access to high quality care.
