CHRISTMAS AT THE HOWARD THEATRE
Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc, (HTR) in partnership with the Washington Performing Arts Society (WPAS) will sponsor a special free holiday concert exclusively for senior citizens in the Washington, DC community at the newly restored Howard Theatre, Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 12 noon.
For more than four decades, Washington Performing Arts Society has created profound opportunities for connecting the community to artists, in both education and performance. The Washington Performing Arts Society is one of the leading presenters in the nation. The organization’s inherent belief in the complete spectrum of the arts is revealed in performances of the highest quality, including classical music, jazz, gospel, contemporary dance, international music and art forms, and works that bend genres in provocative ways. The commissioning of world premieres on local stages to support artists’ creativity is critical to the mission of WPAS.
Since the early 1990's, WPAS Men and Women of the Gospel Choir has been performing annually at prestigious venues within the Washington Metropolitan area such as The Kennedy Center, Harman Center for the Arts, Strathmore Music Center for the Arts offering audiences the tradition and inspirational root of gospel music featuring works by local and national music composers in concert while sharing the stage with an array of artists such as. In addition to their annual main stage appearances each year, the Choir has also been featured in various community events throughout the performance season. Now, WPAS Men and Women of the Gospel come to the legendary Howard Theatre, to present a special Christmas Concert free for the senior citizens in this community.
Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc. a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization leads a collaborative effort with the District of Columbia and other private entities to bring the life, the music, and the people back to the Howard Theatre. Free community events and programs for seniors and youth are critical to the mission of HTR.
Christmas at the Howard Theatre will be a noontime favorite for all who attend this year, celebrating the holiday with music from the renowned WPAS Men and Women of the Gospel, Tuesday, December 18; registration required.
