Looking for a break from Thanksgiving preparations?  Want to get the family out of the house for a few hours? Consider attending the two quality films at the Avalon this week.

"Would that every feel-good movie came by its good feelings so honestly",  says the Washington Post's Ann Hornaday about "Silver Linings Playbook" starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert DeNiro and directed by David O. Russell.  After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.  The film receives three and a half stars from the Washington Post and a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It starts today!

Continuing is "Argo" which is directed by and stars Ben Affleck.  Costarring John Goodman and Alan Arkin, the film chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans as it unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis -- the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. It's a Washington Post critic's pick.

On Wednesday, November 28 at 8:00 pm, Reel Israel DC presents "Room 514". An investigator in the Israeli military is ordered to interrogate a senior officer who is alleged to have abused an Arab family. Her questioning is greeted with sarcasm by the accused commander, while her colleagues advise her to stop the case - it is too political, complex and notorious. Instead, she fastens her teeth into it, Her idealism might have far-reaching consequences for everyone involved
