RE: [columbia_heights] Closure of the West entrance of the GA Ave/Petworth metro station
I'd be interested to know more about this too if anyone has additional information. It sounds more than excessive -- not to mention extremely inconvenient and without community input -- considering that the Columbia Heights metro stations have remained open throughout construction there. Given that, how can the planned Georgia Ave development need or justify a 2 YEAR closure and who allowed it?!?

Subject: [columbia_heights] Closure of the West entrance of the GA Ave/Petworth metro station
A noticed was posted this week regarding the closure
of the West entrance of the GA Ave/Petworth metro
station starting December 11th and continuing for
approximately 2 Years.
I would like some more information about this closure.
The time frame is very excessive. Was this closure
discussed with the community? I can understanding
closing the station for a few days to erect pedestrian
walkways or other safety mechanisms during
construction but 2 years is ridiculous. Both of
Columbia's Heights entrances are open during their
construction, why is the Petworth station different?
The west entrance is used by residents living west of
Georgia as well as by all the residents taking the bus
down Georgia from the north.
