      Saturday August 12, 7:00 p.m. - Special Open Rehearsal Invitation
      Grandview High School Auditorium, 20500 E Arapahoe Rd., Aurora (map
      Twice a year Sound of the Rockies members gather for intensive coaching sessions (four 2-3 hour rehearsal sessions over a 24 hour period) to prepare for upcoming competition.  This year the August retreat will be held at Grandview High School, and you are invited to visit during the last session.  The chorus will preview the new contest ballad, When It's Sleepy Time Down South, Louis Armstrong's theme song.  Get a behind-the-scenes look at the intensity and focused preparation required to compete against today's top choruses.  Everyone is welcome.

      Sound of the Rockies is looking for a few good men - who love to sing!  Sound of the Rockies would like to add 20-30 new members before the next Barbershop Harmony Society International Competition here in Denver, July 2007.  Join the chorus for an evening of fellowship, harmony - and pizza.  Rehearsals are always open to anyone who would like to visit (singers and non-singers alike), however, Guest Nights provide additional information about the chorus and the hobby of barbershop singing.

      The Denver Barberfest is a one-day Youth Camp designed to teach area High School students the craft of barbershop singing and performing. This event is sponsored by the Barbershop Harmony Society, the MountainAires and Sound of the Rockies.  The 7:00 benefit concert will highlight Sound of the Rockies, Denver MountainAires, the 200-member high school boys clinic chorus under the direction of Darin Drown, featured quartet, Storm Front, and more...

      You will have the opportunity to listen to and watch the 30 best men's barbershop choruses and the top 10 quartets in the world.  This will be the first time in the nearly 70-year history of the Barbershop Harmony Society (a.k.a. SPEBSQSA) that the annual convention and competition has been held in Denver.  The week-long convention festivities conclude with two days of contests which will crown the 2007 chorus and quartet champions.  Tickets will also be available for the quarterfinal and semifinal quartet contest rounds, the college quartet competition, and other shows that celebrate a cappella harmony at its best.  Tickets for individual contests and special shows will be available closer to the event.  To ensure the best seats, registration tickets for the entire convention (which include the chorus contest and all quartet contests) are available now.  To order, open the Pepsi Center seating chart (a pdf file) then go to the instruction page that explains the ticket order options and presents a link to the ticket order page.

        These are exciting times for Sound of the Rockies

        One of the biggest celebrations of barbershop harmony in the world is coming to Denver in a couple of weeks.  Sound of the Rockies and four chapter quartets will have the honor or competing in our home town - and you are all invited to the shows!

        Friday Evening, June 29, 2007 - 7:30pm - 6th Annual Go for the Gold Show and Rally
        Grandview High School Auditorium, 20500 E. Arapahoe Road, Aurora, CO (map)

        Take an emotional journey from tender love to gut-wrenching angst, celebrate “Colorado My Home”, behold vocal pyrotechnics, hear goose-bump inducing harmonies, and much more at the Sound of the Rockies Go for the Gold show and Rally. This is a fun-filled opportunity to experience some of the excitement of the International Competition as Sound of the Rockies and the four competing quartets (Storm Front, Ignition!, neXus, and Mojo) treat you to the contest sets they will perform the following week at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention and Contests
        (see below).

        The show will be FREE, but donations will be gratefully accepted.

        This is the first time in the Rocky Mountain District that four quartets from a single chapter have qualified.

        Some History - Sound of the Rockies has been privileged to represent the Rocky Mountain District (RMD) in the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Competitions for the last 5 consecutive years; 2002 in Portland, 2003 in Montreal, 2004 in Louisville, 2005 in Salt Lake City, and 2006 in Indianapolis.  Each year, amid fierce but harmonious competition, Sound of the Rockies has placed in the top 10 out of a field of 20 - 30 district champion and wild card competitors. Chapter quartet have also competed in many of the quartet contests.  Storm Front, has placed in the top 10 out of 50 of the best quartets in the world, and both NeXus and Ignition! have placed among the top 30 quartets.  Mojo won the 2006 RMD Championship and this will be their first trip to the international competition.

        Webcast Information - If you are not able to participate in these events in person, you can still see all that happens on the contest stage right from the very comfort your own home. That’s right, you can watch first hand the returning chorus champion, Ambassadors of Harmony from St. Charles, Missouri defend their title. Can the young men from the Westminster Chorus achieve the Gold that they so narrowly missed last year against the Vocal Majority? You can be there to watch it live to see for yourself.

        Join the Excitement - Volunteer to help at The Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention in Denver
        Sunday, July 1, 2007 through Sunday, July 8, 2007 - Various locations in downtown Denver

        Sound of the Rockies and the Denver Mountainaires Barbershop Chorus are co-hosting the the 2007 Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention and Competition in Denver.

        During the first week of July, 2007, around ten thousand barbershop fans (including chorus and quartet competitors and their families) as well as barbershop harmony lovers from across the U.S., Canada, and around the world, will descend on Denver - quartets will be harmonizing downtown on the street corners, in hotel lobbies, and in restaurants and, as described above, there will be numerous shows and contests throughout the convention.

        Over 400 volunteers throughout the week will be needed to make the convention and contests run smoothly. There are nearly two dozen volunteer opportunities from which you can select, and you can choose the day(s) of the week and the hours you would like to help.

        We welcome anyone's help whether affiliated with a barbershop chapter or not.

        Saturday, July 28, 2007- 7:00 p.m. - Harmony Festival at Chautauqua
        Every summer since 1949, the Boulder Timberliners chorus has hosted the Barbershop Harmony Festival at the Boulder Chautauqua Auditorium. This year's show will be on July 28. The show features quartets and choruses from up and down the Colorado Front Range, including both men's and women's groups, and is a perennial family favorite. In addition to the individual groups strutting their stuff, a highlight will be several songs performed by a mass chorus consisting of over 200 singers on stage at once. This is family entertainment that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age.  Sound of the Rockies will perform at this festival.

        Tickets - Adult $15; student/senior $12; family group $30, if purchased in advance from a barbershopper (call Don Reimer at 303-530-9008 for information).  The Chautauqua box office (303-440-7666) adds fees and tax.

          On July 7, 2007 Sound of the Rockies placed third in the Barbershop Harmony Society International Chorus Competition that was held in Denver Colorado.  The contest set (video, listen) was an audience favorite and featured Colorado My Home written by Meredith Willson for his Broadway play, The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

          Not to be outdone, Storm Front placed third in the Quartet Contest and three other chapter quartets did very well!
          Ignition! placed 12th, Nexus placed 19th, and Mojo placed 26th.

          Sound of the Rockies  will join the Notre Dame Glee Club for an evening of spectacular
          a cappella harmony in a benefit concert for the Ara Parseghian Medical 
          Research Foundation
          .

          This is the chance of a lifetime to see two of the best men's a cappella choruses in the world together in the same concert.  Both groups will perform separately and then will join voices - over 160 strong - for several numbers.

          The Notre Dame Glee Club is recognized as one of the finest all-male collegiate choral groups in the country and has a rich history of singing and brotherhood spanning the last ninety-two years. More than 2,000 young men have sung with the Club over the years, combining the rich traditions of Notre Dame with the highest standards of artistic excellence.  The Glee Club has toured from coast to coast and around the world, and performs over one hundred concerts a year.

          Ara Parseghian was the legendry Notre Dame football coach from 1964-1974 (Ara's Era) compiling a 95-17-4 record.  He founded the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation after losing three grandchildren to the neurodegenerative disease, Niemann-Pick Type C (Listen to Ara Parseghian's invitation to the Sounds of Hope Concert).
