WHEN I was a nipper, I was lucky enough to see Colm Wilkinson tread the boards at the Temperance Hall in Loughrea, Co. Galway, playing the part of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.
To be fair, he has gone on to much bigger and better things, even starring as the priest in the hit Oscar-winning film. So it was with great pride that I read about him being awarded the Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage from the University Philosophical Society (the Phil) and Trinity Musical Theatre.
When it comes to national treasures, they don’t come much bigger and better than Colm Wilkinson.
