U.S. federal authorities have taken actor Wesley Snipes into custody.

Sources in Florida report that Snipes was confronted by agents upon
arriving on an overseas private flight at Orlando International
      Airport early Friday morning.

The 44-year-old star, who lives in nearby Windermere, Florida, was
then taken in the back entrance of an Ocala courthouse to face tax
evasion and conspiracy charges. Snipes, wearing a black suit and
sunglasses, stood before a judge shortly after 10:30 am.

According to a Florida indictment, Snipes failed to file returns
from 1999 to 2004 and of fraudulently claiming nearly $12 million
(U.S.) in refunds in 1996 and 1997. A warrent for his arrest was
      issued in October.

Snipes, who has been filming the movie Gallowwalker in Namibia,
faces 16 years in prison if convicted of the charges.

Snipes has starred in films like White Men Can't Jump, the B.C.-shot
Blade, and the made-in-Toronto political thriller Murder at 1600.

        Jason,

Thanks for the notice on Wesley Snipes.  As I have mentioned before, if the Fair Tax were in place, Snipes would have (hopefully) been paying his taxes at the cash register and wouldn't have the problem facing him...and the taxpayers wouldn't be footing the bill to pay the considerable expenses it will undoubtedly involve to conduct what will likely be a high profile trial that the IRS likes to use to frighten us with.  What a useless and expensive endeavor that would not even exist with the Fair Tax in place.  Which, however, brings up a point: I've heard people say that "it doesn't matter what system we have, people will find a way to cheat."  What ways will creative people find to bypass the Fair Tax?  Is it easier or harder than the current system, and would it be widespread or isolated incidents?  I suppose I could speculate on the ways, but I would like to hear from someone who knows the answers already..?

Thanks Anne...another great example of our IRS at work criminalizing or penalizing citizens regarding what would be private matters under the Fair Tax...and the firefighters families would have already received the entire amount, no hassle, no income tax on it, no federal agents after them, NO PROBLEM!!!  And with the Fair Tax, it wouldn't be anybody's business how much income any American citizen makes!!!  Each example that comes up makes the IRS seem more absurd and absolutely unnecessary in a country based on individual freedoms and the concept of rewarding, not punishing, free enterprise.
