For the third year in a row, the Home Van, a local organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless members of our community, will be collecting and distributing "Holiday Socks for the Homeless". This is a wonderful project for families, classes, scout troops, offices, bowling teams and any other group of kind and caring people. It has become a community tradition.
Heres how you can help: Buy a pair of white sweat socks, stuff one sock into the toe of the other sock, fill the rest of the sock with Christmas goodies and tie off the top with a ribbon. Holiday socks are fun and easy to make, and they mean so much to the people who receive them.
Items should be non-perishable and relatively sturdy. Here are some ideas:
- Chocolate bars or other treats
- Playing cards or small travel games
- Paperback books
- Vienna sausages or other snacks
- Little soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc.
- Votive candles or other small gifts
- A personal note or holiday greeting
Katie Simpson with the Home Van is spearheading the collection effort this year. If you have any questions, or if you need drop off directions, please call Katie at 373-6191 (h). Or 258-5143 (Cell) You can also drop off socks to me at the United Way office (see address/phone below) during business hours and I will make sure they get to Katie.
The Home Van needs to have all the stockings in by December 19. Please help spread the word by forwarding this message to anyone you feel might be interested.
All the best,
