Meek to Host Town Hall Meeting on Iraq with Rep. John Murtha
Rep. Meeks FIU Forum to Feature Nationally-Recognized Defense Expert
MIAMI, FL Today, Congressman Kendrick B. Meek announced that he will hold
a town hall meeting focused on the war in Iraq with special guest,
Congressman John Murtha, on Saturday, June 24, 2006 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The forum will be held at Florida International Universitys Biscayne Bay
Campus, Wolfe University Center, Mary Ann Wolfe Theatre located at 3000 N.E.
151 Street in North Miami. The public is cordially invited to attend, and
questions from the audience will be welcome.
Congressman Murtha is one of the foremost leaders in Congress on issues
affecting our Armed Forces, Meek said. He is a military expert who sees
things clearly and calls them as he sees them. Rep. Murtha has not only
served in the military, he is a bona-fide war hero. As a Member of
Congress, he has put together our $450 billion defense budget. He has
traveled extensively in Iraq and to military bases and hot spots throughout
the world. And he personally knows most of the key military officers who
have to carry out U.S. military policy.
Congressman John Murtha completely changed the debate on Iraq last December
when, as one of the most respected pro-military members of Congress, he
called for a redeployment of U.S. troops from Iraq. He has dedicated his
life to serving his country both in the military and in Congress. He
volunteered for service in Vietnam in 1966-67, receiving the Bronze Star
with Combat "V", two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
He retired from the Marine Corps Reserve as a colonel in 1990, after 37
years of military service, and was awarded the Navy Distinguished Service
Medal by the Marine Corps Commandant. Murtha has served in Congress for
over 30 years and has been both Chairman and Ranking Member of the powerful
House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.
Jack Murtha has the knowledge and credibility to question the Bush
Administrations conduct of the war in Iraq, and I look forward to having
him share his insights with our community in South Florida, Meek said.
Meek serves on the House Armed Services Committee as well as the Committee
on Homeland Security, where he serves as Ranking Member on the Subcommittee
on Management, Integration and Oversight.

I won't be back from Ohio, so I hope someone else from the peace groups can
