      > U.S. Department of Peace
      > FRIDAY, APRIL 7 - SUNDAY, APRIL 9, 2006
      > A Letter from Heart Phoenix
      > Dear Companions in Peace,
      > As the days whisk by and Spring is starting to emerge in all of it's
      > glory here in Florida, I am reminded of how grateful I am for the knowing of
      > other humans that share my passion for the blossoming of peace and
      > nonviolence on our beautiful blue-green planet Earth! I believe we are
      > oftentimes to each other...the "peace" in the middle of a storm.
      > I have noticed in my own life how important it is to be in
      > relationship with others that nurture and support the ideals that I hold so
      > dear to my heart. If it weren't for that, I am certain that my level of
      > dedication, inspiration and faith would be challenged. However, I continue
      > to seek out ways in which to get what I need in order to be present and in
      > service to others.
      > I am so excited by the Department of Peace Campaign and the community
      > it has formed around it in this country and even internationally! The
      > Peace Alliance, the organization of which I serve as President, has been an
      > integral part of the education, training and inspiration for all those that
      > have wanted to participate in this historic campaign. Through our national
      > network, website and staff, free conference calls, conferences and materials
      > have been offered and this has made such a difference in local congressional
      > district areas.
      > It is with great pleasure that I personally invite you to participate
      > in our first Florida State Regional Conference for the establishment of a
      > Cabinet Level Department of Peace in the United States Government!
      > We have picked an area that we feel is most central to all
      > Floridians...the Orlando area. The date is April 7 - 9, 2006. We have
      > rented space at Regal Palms Resort in Davenport, Florida and the cost to you
      > will be very minimal (click here to download registration form/guide).
      > It is our goal to have representatives from all 25 Florida
      > Congressional Districts so that we can work together to move forward the
      > strategy that has recently been developed during a national meeting of DOP
      > State Coordinators. Lynn McMullen who serves as our National Campaign
      > Coordinator will be facilitating the Conference. We will be offering the

      > Please come. We need you. Florida needs you. Since the 2000
      > election, it has never been more apparent as to the role our State plays in
      > the overall national debate. It's time that we organize, strategize and
      > align ourselves with others so that we may be the mighty wave of change
      > towards a more sustainable future.
      > I believe that the sense of helplessness that often comes upon us when
      > we read the news... international or domestic...and that overwhelming
      > sadness that results from the knowledge of the violence that continues to be
      > perpetrated...can be transformed by positive action.
      > We welcome you into our community and hope that you will send back the
      > attached Registration with your name on it so that we can count you in!
      > Together WE DO make a difference. Please feel free to pass along this

      > Featuring: Lynn McMullen,
      > Dept. of Peace National Campaign Coordinator
      > Heart Phoenix & Jeffrey Weisberg - Board Members
      > Cynthia Seymour - Florida State Coordinator
      > What is the Department of Peace Campaign? - A Bill (HR 3760) and (S.
      > 1756) to establish a U.S. cabinet-level Department of Peace (DOP) is
      > currently in Congress. These Bills establish non-violence as an organizing
      > principle of American society, providing the President with an array of
      > peace-building policy options for domestic and international use.
      > Domestically, the Department would be responsible for addressing gang and
      > drug violence, child abuse, prison reform, domestic abuse and other issues
      > of conflict. Internationally, the Department would gather research, analyze
      > foreign policy and focus on non-military peaceful conflict resolution. The
      > Bill would establish a Peace Academy modeled after the military academies
      > that would train in conflict resolution and peace-building strategies.
