I will forward this message to Codepink and perhaps some discussion
can be generated on how we can better work together for our common goals of
peace and justice. I agree that the Palestine issue is a fuzzy one
for many of us. We get bits on the news but have no historical context into
which to fully understand the complex issues. So glad that you are having
hosting an educational event at the CMC, Sunday, November 13. I look
forward to attending.
I also look forward to your unity in the 2000 Too Many upcoming
action. Would you ask folks to please bring candles we can place at a
memorial for all of those who have died in this Iraq War.
Subject: Palestinian/Israeli nonviolent
movement and Gainesville Coalition for Justice
Dear Jacque Betz of Code Pink Gainesville,
I am with
Nakba '48, a student organization at the University of Florida seeking to
raise awareness of Palestine. On Sunday November 13th a Palestinian and
Israeli on a national tour will be in Gainesville to speak about the
cooperative nonviolent movement in Palestine. We are very excited to have
this rare opportunity here in Gainesville on something that is completely
ignored by the wider mass media since it does not fit into the framework of
the current repressive discourse. There is a website with detailed
information about the speakers and the movement at http://www.palsolidarity.org/main/speaking-tour/.
would like to inquire if your organization or anyone else you know would
like to cosponsor the event with us. We have all the costs and location
covered (the CMC). We are just seeking to spread the word and asking if we
can list the organization as a cosponsor. Also, we are planning on having
the engagement in the evening but the speakers are going to be here all
day. So please feel free to suggest any other ideas for an expanded event
Additionally, we would like to invite you to join us in
the Gainesville Coalition for Justice, a broad-based alliance
of progressive organizations in the Gainesville community and at
the University of Florida. We plan to unite through the common cause
of humanity, as well as sharing news, information, ideas and
strategies. We hope to exemplify everyday democracy to encourage more
cooperation, dialogue, and praxis for a just world and a better tomorrow
for our children and those without a voice. We have a mailing list open
to anyone interested which can be joined by sending a blank email to gainesvillejustice-subscribe@....
We will be meeting next Thursday the 27th at 6pm on campus at the "potato"
sculpture in Turlington plaza to agree upon a common set of principles and
discuss further activities on campus and in the community.
heard from Pierce Butler about the protests you are organizing here in
Gainesville for when the 2,000th US soldier is killed in Iraq. I want to
thank you for coordinating this unfortunately necessary collective
demonstration. You can count on Nakba '48 as well as other groups from the
Gainesville Coalition of Justice being there.
In peace and
solidarity, Robert Heck rheck@... nakba48.org
