There have been some recent updates in the news regarding the Coco
Palms Hotel as well as a short story on the importance of the land
under the Coco Palms to native Hawaiian culture and history.
At the county Planning Commission meeting Tuesday at the Moeikeha
Building, Phil Ross, one of three owners of the historic property,
argued the development should receive not just the two-year extension
to its permits requested in a November letter but a three-year
allowance due to current and future economic conditions.
Coco Palms Burial Grounds beginning where the Wailua River empties
into Wailua Bay. For centuries it was the domain of Kaua'i's Ali'i,
and within it on the property of the Coco Palms Hotel is located the
chiefs burial grounds.
