Subject: [bike_roswell] HB101 Passes. This is the better bicycling bill.

It wasn’t easy and many miss-statements were made about the rights and laws of cyclists.

Some of the statements made were:

it is still law that you have to ride single file……

It is still illegal to ride up the side of stopped cars at a red light (when there is room to share the lane it is legal on either side of the car)

Does this mean that if there is a bike lane in front of your house that you can’t park there? (A bike lane is travel lane and you could never park there)

Why is the signaling of the turn not continuous?

This change says that you don’t have to signal to turn, but if a car parks in the bike lane they can be fined and the bike cannot.

The house bill 101 passed as the last bill of the session yesterday and will be available on the video archives here http://www.gpb.org/lawmakers/2011/day-19 once the activities have been recorded.

The understanding of the laws were great misrepresented and miss-stated.  I would like to create some type of over view of all laws so that the questions we saw on the house floor can be answered correctly.

       Passed 93 to 73
