When we were doing the pool search last year, all of the pools I called were in the $60-90/hour (plus ~$15/hour lifeguard) range with the exception of Ohlone which was $135 (though they did have a non-profit rate of $90).  Gunderson was $65/hour including the lifeguard.  So $190 seems extremely high compared to other pools in the area!!

Highlands is $69 per hour.  We have been losing money there regularly.

Los Gatos is significantly less.  I am not sure I have the number with me........ I'll check and get back with you.

Thanks for doing the research on this Curt.  We're playing at Highlands which is 3-5' range.  We play there because it has a great (smooth) bottom.  The 3' section is really too shallow for ideal conditions, the 5' section is pretty good.  I'd say that the 4.5' depth would be better than Highlands if the bottom was as smooth.  In general, 4.5' would be considered too shallow, if you ask me.  If the bottom was equal to Highlands, I would consider switching, but we'd need to consider the cost too. Unfortunately I don't know the cost of Highlands; I know that Los Gatos is significantly cheaper than $190/hour.

So, we need Rich or Wendy to chime in with pool costs.  I know Rich is out of the country, so may take a while to get a response. Wendy, got any ideas?

That's all I've got for now.  I'm glad you're keeping your eyes open for options!

It has been my experience that smooth bottoms cost more. Just sayin.

What do we pay at other pools? How shallow is too shallow?

There is also always the negogiation of the actual price. The quoted price is too high.

I suppose Wednesday works better on our end than Thursday, since SF has its practice on Thursdays. However, if WaterPolo can't move their night from Thursday to Wednesday, we can make Thursday work. The pool location is perfect and I glad to hear about the smooth bottom :-)

The group would have exclusive use of the pool (there are not other users at these times on these day)-rental fees would reflect this use.

If we were to move forward with this rental, I would need to explore the availability of staff at these times prior to a commitment (we would do a quarterly rental agreement for this type of rental.)
