Hi the 400 Chevy was a good engine as long as they didn't over heat. They were always cracking heads or blowing head gaskets. The price seems to be average for the year. Make sure the radiator is a heavy duty and in very good shape.
      Good luck

      I've been looking at a 1979 23' Brougham with a Chevy 400. The
gentleman is asking $5,700, and it is in really good shape. He's
updated it, fixed things when needed, etc. It does need something
done to the fridge that is supposed to cost around $200 to fix,
bringing my out-of-pocket to roughly $6,000. I'm supposed to take
the rig to the mechanic to have the engine compression tested in the
next day or so. Is the Chevy 400 a good motor for this rig(enough
power, dependable)? Is this way to much to pay for a '79 with 86K
miles? I think it is in good shape, but don't think the price is
quite right. Need input fast. Thanks.

      Shannon
