Franklin finalizing plans to commemorate 1864 battle

By KEVIN WALTERS - Staff Writer http://tennessean.com/

FRANKLIN - Franklin aldermen will consider spending $5,000 to commemorate the 142nd anniversary of the Battle of Franklin on Nov. 30.

That discussion will be part of the city's Budget and Finance Advisory Committee at 5 p.m. this evening at Franklin City Hall.

Early plans for the event include lighting 10,000 votive candles in the Franklin Square, separate bands of Civil War re-enactors and a finale of downtown church bells chiming in unison.

Organizers are seeking an estimated $5,000 from the city, plus permission to close streets around the square for much of the day.
