Bill BrunerBill,Yes they did. At first, they were largely mounted on locally confiscated horses and mules. By 1864, they were drawing replacement mounts from the US Army.The 39th Indiana, which was sort of associated with Wilder, eventually became the 8th Indiana Cavalry in October 1863, but Wilder's men retained their infantry designations.Dave Powell
