Not aware of any time-line formula to count a casualty as "killed in battle" or as "died of wounds".  Logic would to me that a wounded soldier moved to a care station was counted as "wounded" but his status would change to "died of wounds" when, later, he died in the field station.  Killed was probably based on how many were buried by the burial details.  In any event, the calucation of casualties during the civil war as an inexact science.

I am curious to know if Grant pulled these numbers from the roll of the
provost guard. These types of figures would appears in reports of the
provost marshall, correct? Do you know where to find the provost
marshall reports?

If Grant had pulled these numbers from the roll of the provost guard,
then the figures would probably include all stragglers picked up
between Raymond and Jackson, and therefore would include men picked up

Out of curiosity, in general how much time must transpire between a
battle and a soldier dying of his wounds before the soldier will not be
counted in the (k) column? The research die-hards at Friends of
Raymond have identified 110 Confederate soldiers known to have died as
a result of the battle of Raymond. Of these, some were certainly
counted in the (w) column, but died at the Raymond hospital due to
their wounds.

If the number of (k) was 75, that would mean 35 (out of about 80) men
died at the Raymond hospitals.
